date. 6 October,1785-9 March, 1860

Inside the chain link enclosure is the grave of Harvey Coe.

Rev. Coe was also one of the first trustees of Western Reserve College,  serving  from 1826-1855, secretary from 1832-1840.

The stalwart Coe was an abolitionist who believed in colonization--a  more "mainstream" view among anti-slavery advocates of the time.

Indeed, abolitionists in Hudson took both sides of the issue.

Tensions ran especially high at WRC where many looked askance at the colonization platform.

Coe, Pitkin, and David Hudson issued a public rebuttal after back-and-forth debate in the Hudson Observer and Telegraph.

Coe was later even asked to resign, but stayed on until President Hitchcock's tenure.
