Moving around the back of the cemetery & beginning to return up the opposite side, we see a substantial stone which marks the grave of Dr. Moses Thompson & his wife, Elizabeth.

Dr. Thompson came to Hudson in 1800 with David Hudson, intending to look over the land with the idea of his family relocating from the east.

The next year when he went back, David Hudson gave him $50 for medicines, insuring that he would return.

And return he did, bringing his parents & brothers to purchase land.

Thompson was the first practitioner in what is now Portage and Summit counties, with his cases taking him riding over the countryside.

He served as an army surgeon in thw War of 1812.

His wife, Elizabeth, was from the Mills family.
